Thanks guys.

I'm in Bloomfield Indiana.
The trans in the car is a 200 3 speed and the rear gear is a 2.14 and slow.

I want to gets some descent performance out of the car nothing fancy.

ahh then be sure and snag the transmission mount and you probably need a Q-jet off of a later model 307 w/ a 200-4r. I'd assume the 200-4r out of the Monte has the universal bellhousing (my 86 Salon did), if not you will need a Chevy to B-O-P adapter plate. Guess I forget about stock valving and such ... trans-kits are usually one of the first upgrades a car gets (unless it's already been done). One of these days, I will pluck the stock 260/3 speed auto out and drop in a 350 Olds and that afore mentioned 86 200-4r. It's already been redone and has a GNX spec'd shift improver. The 86 was really lame and even in it, I could get some scratch on the upshifts.

Go with any sbo. If you get a running one it's a direct replacement.
As for the 5spd, there are quite a few manual g bodies running around lately, if you need help, talk to 4speeds4ever on oldspower.com he realy knows his stuff on this subject.

Well got the stuff off the Monte. the trans is a 200r4 and rear end is 3.73. Probably go with a chevy 350 I found for $300 so I can still have money to get the car a new top and painted.

Welcome fellow hoosier, also make sure you get the crossmember. Unless you buy a new one so you can run true duals. I know of a few olds 350's and a 455 is in indiana so if your looking let me know. Also make sure you get a 76 and under block. Also people dont forget about the 403, throw a set of 5/6/7/7a heads on there and you got yourself a nice little street car.

Yep sometimes you run across one so cheap its worthwhile. Have a guy local here with a 350 Olds that he would part with for about that but its tired and the gas & time don't make it worth it if you find something that cheap locally.
