Me being a (above average) car enthusiast, I do agree with most people opinions in keeping the Olds 307 intact with the car if that's what it came with and it's running fairly well. But it's almost everyday that I see people on here looking for ways to improve the HP & Torque to these so called "BOAT ANCHORS". IMO, any V8 beats the hell out of having a 6 cyl. anyday (unless you have a Grand National of course!) but, here's the problem the 307 haves.... It's Small! True, you can easily upgrade to an Olds 350, but I see it as this; if you dont know what to do to wake up the 307, why bother getting a stock Olds 350? I mean, it's not like it's a 4 bolt main or anything, not even the Big Blocks! (though, with the right size pockets you can turn it into one!) and who would want to? So I feel like this is where I come in because I spend a lot of time online and my head burried in a car magazine (HOT ROD,SUPER CHEVY,CAR CRAFT, etc.) and I've noticed that if you don't own one of the popular big blocks (454,455,403,572,etc.), then your pretty much outta luck! BUT WAIT! KEEP THAT 307! Here are a few references that'll pretty much take all the guess work out of deciding on what to do with it. Hope this is use full to one of you guys!

Hope I helped someone out and have fun! (Kinda hypocritical though to post this because I'm still putting my SBC 355 in my cutty though  and the only way that SBC don't see the cutty is for me to find a 403 :wtf: !)

I dont have an Olds 307 but thanks for the info. Thats some good ref. and some good ideas. :notworthy:

No problem, some of these references show the potential of the 307 and what limitless possibilities you have. Like I said, it's just as good as any other V8! I'm glad to see this thread is usefull to some of you guys! 😀

The engine building team of Robinson Analytical took to the dyno stage for the first time in Engine Masters competition yesterday. While their 307 Oldsmobile (316 ci) won’t come close to winning, there’s a lot of merit to their entry, and that’s why it was my favorite entry for Tuesday’s competition. A look at the tech sheet shows some pretty basic bolt-ons. Starting with a stock late-model block, the Robinsons loaded it with an OEM Olds forged crank, Eagle rods, Ross pistons, and a COMP cams cam (.633-/.592-inch lift, 235/239-at-.050). A set of factory cast iron heads was hand ported (casting number 5A 3317), and topped with an Edelbrock Performer intake, and Edelbrock 800-cfm Thunder AVS carb. They mixture was lit by a budget MSD Street Fire ignition.

Two you should do this...Forged crank must be a 330 crank...and it was one on classic olds for like $150.00 recently seen edlebrock intakes on ebay for like $50.00 rare but seen them go for $50.00...if this was done all with simple bolt ons imagine what this set-up will do for my 350!

another thing that is said thats my carb...style on top that i sold?!!?! 😢
Also to all my olds heads(people that <3 the olds)I have a question!?!? is this correct that the olds 307 can rev to to 5900 rpm or is this accomplished only with the 330 crank? If my theory on the 330 crank allowing to rev to 5900 rpm(safely) can this be done to the olds 350 to rev to 5900 rpms SAFELY

Maybe a dumb question but do you think it will hurt the value of an 83 H/O to do some of these mods ? I have an 83 H/O and would like more hp but don't want to replace the original motor. Some of these examples seem to be what I'm looking for , not a lot of hp but good enough for street cruising . any opinions?

Just do internal mods and keep them to yourself  Keep the exterior of the engine original and the value of that car will not be affected 8)
