i run a TCI 350 in my car as well, it was beat on its entire life....and yet no hiccup or anything! It was in a low 13s car, now it sits behind my 455, I heard bad things about TCI but i dunno they came thru on this one!

if your car is a street car and you want speed acceleration and mpg, 3.23 3.42 and 3.73 will be good. maybe 3.08 with a th350.
my monte has 3.73's and 450+torque and she flies!
have 3.73s and i hate em with a 3spd

the bicycle example makes sense..a larger gear has higher top speed but harder to get off the line.
so nobody knows much about my governor problem? plastic gears ..

depends on what engine is in your car, a lot came with 2.29 2.41(3.8V6) 2.56, 2.73, 2.93(rare) 3.08 or 3.23s
