Bought a steering shaft off of ebay that was out of a 94 Grand Cherokee. D-shaft was 5/8" wide. Thought this was what I needed but my steering column end is 3/4". whoops. I thought what I needed was a 93-98 grand cherokee shaft, were there other styles?
Some Cherokees also have this shaft. Is the steering wheel side made of steel or aluminum? I have the one with the steel end and had to pry it open a bit and filed down where the bolt goes through a bit and it fits perfectly..As for the shaft not collapsing try soaking it WD40 or PB blaster and hitting it with a rubber mallet to loosen it up.
I believe mine had the aluminum end on it. I could grind on it, but I dont think the bolt would clamp. Both sides clamp down instead of one going through the steering column end
You need the one with the steel end i did the same thing and pulled the aluminum one off a Grand Cherokee first and it didn't fit either. I then pulled one off a Cherokee and it fits.Either way the shafts with the steel end are more common on the Cherokee than the Grand Cherokee.
