Grandpa Car: 1979 Cutlass Thread

this is one of the few 78*80 models that keeps my mind from dismissing them completely, and is one of my favorites on the forum. one half of my mind is voting to go olds power, and the other half screams "are you nuts? you'll ruin it!"
:itchy:

either way, I know you'll give the car it's proper respect, and it'll turn out/stay perfect!

I really appreciate the kind words. And I promise to be respectful.

For about a year, while I was going to school, I lived with my grandparents. The three years that followed I was working at my uncle's shop in town so I saw my grandpa several times a week when he'd drop in. He always complained that it didn't have near the power (even though it had the "big" 305 in it) of the Oldsmobiles he owned throughout the '50s. I suspect the only reason he never did anything about it was that it was so damn reliable. My grandparents both had other cars that they drove daily and the Cutlass lived in their 1 car garage. It mostly only got used for road trips. Always got better than 20mpg and never left them stranded. I guess he just didn't want to mess with sucess.
I'm about 95% sure it'll get a 425 at some point and I'll start collecting parts in the coming months but I need to get my house done first. It should stay every bit as reliable. I don't put enough miles on it to really care about MPGs anymore.

Today was the warmest sunny day we've had in a while so I put 40-50 miles on it. Got back and noticed the tags are expired. Guess its probably time for some Idaho plates.

Rolled the cover back over it for now. Not sure when I'll dig it out again. Hoping to have my own garage again in May or June. It'll sure be nice to have all my junk under one roof again.

Well, I didn't drive this one much this year. 100 miles maybe (still more than my wagon). It's been under a cover in my garage for maybe 3 months. Today is my last day in town for a couple weeks so I drove it over to the station across the river for some real gas and a few ounces of stabilizer. Stopped off for some lunch and now it's back under cover for the next few months.

That is a mint Cutlass, I too like those rims. They almost look factory, close to my 14" factory 88 rims, I would add rocket emblems to the center caps.
