Thank god I wont have to deal with it then. Ill probably just get some temps for now and wait till the 1st. I told my dad when i got this car that it was a car for me to learn about cars. It seems to be fufilling the task.

i think those kinds of cars are great my lumina was my stereo car and the camaro was my problem car both great cars to learn things from

Is the coolant flowing? Also did you bleed it properly? I'm not trying to make it seem like you don't know what your doing so please don't take offense to my questions.

Is there alot of junk and muck in the system, if so then I understand the rad being clogged. Another thing, are you still running the stock fan clutch. Have you checked if its working? With the ENGINE OFF, turn the fan by hand. Is it easy to spin or is there a little drag on it? Lets try to figure this out and not just throw parts at it until one finally works.

Let us know what all you done and checked. Others will chime in I'm sure, we're all here to help one another 8)

No offense taken. We checked the fan clutch just a tad of resistence. wasnt hard to turn, but it spun with a flick of the finger, but not vey far.

The radiator looks like crap, outside and inside. Leaking at top, discoloration and rust on the backside. Inside looked grimey. When I bought it the guy had it flushed just a few weeks before. But then it sat for another 6 months covered in bondo dust.

I had two buddys help, one was a mechanic for most of his life and the other drove nothing but g-bodys his whole life. They both agreed it probably is the radiator after we fixed the thermostat and changed the cap. We also tested the old thermostat with the lighter trick and it did not open, so It could be more than one problem its having.

I tell you though, the thermostat was not as easy to get to as everyone said. Maybe i should have specified that i have the 3.8 n/a in it. Cuz even my friend who had these cars said they were never that hard to change, but he only drove the v8 ones.

i was thinking about that to and its alot easier on a v8 and g bodys are the perfect cars top learn on its so basic and everythings some wut easy to get to and replace

do u have any strange noises coming from the water pump if so the water pump could be bad

just make sure u dont over heat it to much lol i was on the freeway doin bout 120 in mine and the fan belt popped and i didnt kno and i was still goin suddently the car just like lost power and died but i still made it the like 4 miles to the next exit and into a parking lot but after that my timing hasnt be right yet and the motor dont run as strong as it use to

We ruled out the waterpump, no noises, no leaks and it was pumping coolant through the system.

The hottest it got was when the emissions guys were testing it. it was spraying out the resevoir. When we drove it home it wasnt spraying out yet, but was close.

There are plugs in the bottom of the water jacket on most cars that allow you to drain the coolant from the block below the level of the water pump passages. I would unscrew them and drain the jackets if they are present and you are changing the coolant. I am not talking about the freeze plugs either! They are screw in plugs about 5/16 or 3/8 of an in. in diameter. For a radiator, try a self serve junkyard as many times, cars get new parts just before they are junked, and you can sometimes find a new radiator for $50. I have done this both times I needed a radiator for my G body and wound up with a new 3 core radiator for cheap.

Thanks, but I had already gotten a new radiator yesterday, but If i need some new parts Ill check out the parts yard too. Im gonna hook it up sometime tommorow.
