Has anyone here created one? I can't find it if there is... I confused myself wheel shopping. I'm thinking about buying this used set of American Racing Hopsters... And I need to buy lug nuts, I had no idea there were so many choices of thread pattern. What's stock for an 86 Regal?

Dude wants 400 bucks for them, they're like new with good tires like 75%+ tread left. I think the rears are 15x8 and the front are 15x6. I saw the rear tires were 205/65/15 which is a little skinny, I didn't see the front tire size but they're definitely way skinnier. I need to buy some new tires anyway so what the hell right? Upgrade the rims while I'm at it.

Also does anyone know where to get that tool to remove the stock wire hub caps? Do I have to go to a dealer, or do parts stores have it? There's that lock thing under the center cap... And the original socket or whatever it was didn't come with my car. I went to check my brakes for wear before taking my car for inspection, and couldn't find a way to get that lock off, so I just pried off the hub caps with a crow bar.

Really not that many choices. G-bodies had two different size lug nuts depending on year. 1978-1981 all used SAE 7/16-20 wheel studs. '82-'88 used Metric M12 x 1.5 wheel studs. You '86 should have the metric wheel studs/lug nuts unless someone swapped them out for some reason.

I meant in the lug nuts... If you look at a lug nut catalog there's a ton of choices on threads. I see 8 different threads on summit. 😛 I figured there was like truck, import, and domestic car. Then you just needed to pick the length.

Thanks for the help though.

Why would they switch something so basic as a lug nut? Just to make things more difficult?
I think I'm gonna buy those wheels, they looked nice... I don't really want them for this car. But I'll throw them on till I get something else to put them on.

For the Hopster wheels you need a standard conical seat lug nut.

Yeah I'm trying to find some cheapies... I should be able to get all 20 for about 20-25 bucks.

I don't get why they sell them in packs of 4... I guess if you have a car with 4 lugs that means you don't have left overs. But still.

They are expecting you to buy a pack of locking wheel lug nuts too. If you look at it that way, then it would be a waste of money for a guy that want locking wheel nuts but has to pay for (4) packages of 5 wheel nuts and then just toss four of them out to replace with his locking nuts.

Buy the good stuff and get McGard. They are high quality lug nuts and really not a lot of money.

Math is your friend.

Four packs of four is what you need for a car with four-lug wheels (16 total).
Five packs of four is what you need for a car with five lug wheels (20 total).
Doesn't make a whole lot of difference if you buy five packs of four or four packs of five, does it?

Don't waste your money on cheapie lug nuts. I bought brand new cheapie lug nuts for my 62 Olds a few months ago and they already have rust. I was very careful when installing them and did not use an impact wrench.

That's pretty bad...

It just seems ridiculous to me to pay 40-50 bucks for lug nuts. I'm not made of money.

Look at it from the other perspective. Why would you want to skimp and save money on the one tiny part that holds your wheels on???
