OK, my B-day isn't until Aug. but my dad called me up last week and said he had an early b-day gift for me. Now he lives a few hours away and he told me to bring my truck so the wife and I drove up to Michigan to his house. Lo and behold, he had a Olds 350 with a TH400 transmission attached to it waiting on me. Now, I know this thing is most likely gonna need a few things but my old man saved me at least 300-800 bucks on this combo. Guy said it runs great but the transmission wouldn't shift, but after they pulled the motor, my dad found a big hole in one of the vaccuum lines .... could be the culprit. Either way i now have the motor i've been looking for. From what i can tell its a late model 350 but definately a 350....casting number 557752.

Gonna drop the transmission and run it down to the transmission shop and have them put it on their machine and check it all out. Probably take the top end off the motor and have it gone over. Sorry for lame post, but I cant wait to get rid of this tired old 307

Congrats!!! sounds like fun going thru it! im about to do a head swap myself as soon as i can find a set im interested in lol

well, i got the transmission to the shop and they went through it, new seals, filter etc and they put it on their machine and everything checks out good...thats a plus. Only cost me $150 for that...plus they steam cleaned it so its nice and clean.

On the other hand...i started disassembling the motor today. Out of 10 bolts holding the exhaust manifolds on...only 1 is frozen (lucky me) Soaking it in Blaster right now. Took the valve covers off and the heads are pretty foul looking underneath. There is a BUNCH of what appears to burnt oil, right between the middle two cylinders on each side. Its like a pile of burnt dry flakes. The intake is pretty disgusting too.....just gonna toss it and grab a Edelbrook probably. Local shop quoted me $1300 to rebuild the motor and heads, all new seals, freeze plugs etc...probably gonna go that route. Add true duals, new carb, new exhaust, new driveshaft and new gears in the rear...should wake up my tired Salon
