Just went to HF yesterday, bought an air hose reel 50' for $49 and got 20% off. It happened to be just what I needed at the right price and I have another similar that is working ok. Also got a few cheezy hand tools, a brass hammer and some dental pics. As for the new higher end stuff, if it's within 40% of name brand I'm buying the name brand. For bits that could be life threatening if it fails like jack stands and cherry pickers ...I'm NOT buying HF.
Btw... a friend loaned me a bumper hitch motorcycle carrier from HF rated at 400lbs I think, a very cheezy cheaply made device and no way would I risk my bike or my truck with that thing. Pick and choose wisely. For ratchets, sockets, wrenches and the like I always buy good used.

bought a set of tools from Lowes made by Kobalt

Since Lowe's is transitioning to Craftsman, I caught there kobalt 227 piece kit on sale for $100. Packaged in a nice box with drawers. For that price and what all came in, I couldn't go wrong.

Plus I have partials, it is nice to have a set again knowing what I need is there.

I don’t know the exact name of it, but go to YouTube and search “24 inch breaker bar comparison “. MAC, Matco, Snap-On, and Pittsburgh. Identical results. One costs $125+, two cost $145+, and one cost $19 (not including he used his $20% off coupon). Hilarious. Not twice the cost but 6-8 times the cost.

Also go to Indeed.com or your favorite job website or even google and type in “how much does a Snap-On laborer make?” and tell me that buying that sh*t supports 'good' American jobs at $10-15 per hour. Snap-on doesn't even pay their own employees enough to buy Snap-On tools. Unless they are a Snap-On sales rep or higher, at which point they likely don't even know how to use a hand tool.

And if the truth were known Snap-On, MAC, Matco, or someone else of the same integrity very likely owns the Chinese plant that makes all of the 'second rate tools' and 'deceptive advertisement' that started this whole thread.

Yep, I own that 25" HF polished breaker bar....truck prices are just ridiculous anymore. I do occasionally buy from Cornwell or Matco, Snap-on is torx bits only for me because they warranty them.

I used one for my engine hoist and two separate ones for engine stands. I used one on my 20 ton hydraulic press. I'd have to disagree with you.

I hear you, but i buy that kind of stuff when it's on super sale in the neverending stream of flyers, a few dollars cheaper than the coupon in most cases.

The big stuff most would want to use it on is either excluded or never discounted, it seems.

all i know is my boss doesn't allow tool trucks @ my work and the sears around here are gone.i buy tools from just about anywhere i can to try and make my job easier.

I worked for about 4 months for a shop where the owner bitched every time a tool truck rolled into the lot

He also bitched about the PBE truck guy that came around every 3 weeks...that we bought a lot of consumables from.

Finally we told him no trucks, no tools or materials. Still didn't like it, but at least he kept it to himself from then on

They actually do have parking lot sales here, I mean stuff is actually out in the parking lot ....

I have a 24" HF breaker bar. The anvil pin fell out a long time ago, since then I've held it together with nut-and-bolt. Only breaker bar I use, and the removable anvil sometimes makes it useful in unexpected ways.

My favorite HF tool is a 3-foot torque wrench for the balancer bolt on the Buick V6. Wants 225 lb-ft. Lean into the fender and yank. Also have an HF electric impact wrench to get it out. Had to have the tools, but don't use very often.
