My 84 has the Headlamp on warning chime/key in ignition buzzer but it's very faint. Does this mean it's worn out or is there another problem. Looked at the 86 I have and it uses 3 separate devices to perform these functions whereas the 84 uses only one. So I don't think I can swap out between the two for a test. The 84's looks like a blue rectangular cube but part of the part number was printed sloppily and I can't read the whole number. Would like to get this working correctly.

Pics? The ones I have for both Monte's is a big black box that replaces the smaller seatbelt buzzer, has a gray wire that goes to the lamp accessory cavity in the fusebox & a light green & a orange wire going to a connector the replaces the keyminder buzzer.
Here's one on Ebay that I have in my watch list. P/N 25519224.

Likely the foam on the "speaker," or tone generator disc is crumbling. Typical problem. You could take it apart, which is no easy task, replace the foam and gain your tone back to normal sound. Or you could try and find a new one somewhere.
I believe it's p/n 4160132, 4193060 or 4183278 depending on your trim levels and options (like TR9). Check your p/n on the side of the box and see if it closely resembles any of these.

Box looks sompin' like dis.

Looks like mine only mine isn't faded. It's a darker blue. I've tried reading the part number but it wasn't printed very well from the factory and I can only make out a few of the numbers. I'll take another look and write down what I can make out. Maybe it will match the numbers you mention. Are these still available somewhere?

They're not available from GM anymore. You'd have to scour junkyards and 3rd party places like craigslist, ebay, Fakebook, etc. Used or new, they don't grow on trees.

Never mind those other ones. They're 7 pins. I believe yours are 8 pin

Try this one...

I believe that top picture is it. Mine started out with the "10024" but the last 3 numbers were obliterated. Thanks for the pictures. And now if I follow Elcam's advice (in the provided link) I should be able to replace the foam and get 'er working again.

I hate mine and want to remove it but I'm not too sure where it is and what it looks like. Does mine look like the above blue one? I can hear behind the gauge panel area. Can I just unplug it? And if so, you can have it if a 79 Malibu one will work.
