Good luck! It's not a difficult job, but use care and good judgement. Just take your time, and a good pair of shears would be very helpful.
You Tube has several videos that would be helpful to you...and by all means, use a quality brand adhesive, like 3M...but make sure you get the right one. There's several grades, or levels of adhesive.

Not meaning to hyjack your post, but I dont have a board with my monte carlo. I have read that all the g bodys are the same. Is this correct?
thx

At what point do you call it good?

I'd put some more time into it. Those black areas are your enemy, especially around the edges. Your goal is to have as much as the board looking like the light areas as possible. I have some pictures on my phone of mine that I can text you if you want to see where I stopped.

Buy the 3M stuff, rated for high temps if you attempt it.

All good advice above. Spend the money on the 3M stuff specifically engineered for high temperature applications. It will say this on the can. Yes, it is more expensive but if you use a inferior adhesive it will eventually fail again.

BTW, while removing and cleaning be very careful with your factory substrate. It is fragile and will crack. It can be repaired though. Some guys on Youtube use heavy duty, non corrugated cardboard with hot melt. Others have had success with dare I say duct tape 😕 (check out the link)

I bought the ABS plastic substrate from Mikes Monte's and promptly returned it. In my opinion it is a POS. Why? because it is way too heavy and the cut out opening is not correct for G bodies with hi level lighting package / reading lamp. Other guys have reported the ABS also warps in high heat. GM engineers got it right when they used a lightweight, cellular substrate that is rigid and reduces noise. Just my opinion from an engineering perspective.

Looks good.
I recently had a headliner installed on one of my 4 door cars. They guy came to my house.
He was rough on that old board. He used a wire brush to remove all the old foam.

He just used his glue spray gun to repair the broken corners. I thought he was going to fold the board in half!!
I had to walk away a couple time...He had done it so many time he knew what he could and couldn't do.
It looked perfect when he was done..
