Sharp car! You need to do the 200-4R 3.73! Like Oldsmobile did with the 442. Its probably the single greatest upgrade you can make. If the tires are old you can get BFG RWL 245/60/14s to keep your speedometer & odometer correct and if the 200-4R that you put in it comes from a 442 it you would not even have to change the gear for it to be correct ala very close. Even the part and full throttle shift points would fit the vin Y 307 fine. Naturally it would benefit from a cam upgrade after that if you wanted to. Factory vin 9 or aftermarket. Right now I am sure you will find it to be very slow but at least its easily correctable.

RMI-25 is great stuff to clean the inside of your cooling system as you still want the best heat transfer from your heads & block as they are as coated as your radiator was plus it conditions your seals so no leaks pop up. If the tires are not dry rotted the heck with the few miles drive it to and enjoy the woodward cruise. Its great. I always though the drive up there with all the cars coming in was half the fun. I run the night before and the late evening after the cruise is closed but park and watch & wonder around the cruise & automotive exhibits during the cruise. Sitting in traffic isn't that much fun to me even if most of the traffic is cool. Why is it you always have some dip sh*t wants to cruise it in his Corsica or some crap?

In fact I am off work right now so I might go again this year.

With the gears you can buy a new gear set pack & a factory type Eaton posi and have a shop that is experienced in doing them ie they should have the proper tools to measure & set the pinion depth so it does not wine or wear. Or you can find one out of a salvage MCSS and just inspect & change the fluids & maybe the posi clutches and swap the whole thing yourself drum to drum as its idiot proof simple and done with common tools oh yea and half the cost.

Thats a heck of a post! Thanks for all of the info! My wife and I are avid car collectors, I own an auto repair shop and have worked in the industry since I was 16 (40 now  ). This car is so clean that I hate to alter it. If I wanna go fast I have other vehicles to quench that thirst. I agree totally that it would be an awesome upgrade. If I can find everything, I mean everything to do the swap I may do it. Complete rear end, driveshaft, crossmember, shifter cable, shift indicator inlay (PRNODD21), trans, the only thing I need to do more research on is how to correctly wire in the torque converter lock up...this would have to factory original or I won't do it. I'd love to find a donor car with O.D.!!! I will not even think about opening up this engine, 307's are worthless for power. Its not worth the effort to gain just a few HP by changing a cam. the tires are correct for the car and were replaced about 10 years ago, as long as I am not going to highway distance drive it they should be fine. Thanks so much for the great post, most people don't take the time to type all of their thoughts out! Let me know if you are going to go to Woodward, we are bringing the Cutlass and our Marauder this year!
