Help me get outside air into cabin! Too hot.

The only way you can get to this from the engine side would be to remove the entire HVAC system and pull it out of the car.

It would probably be easier to pull the dash before doing that.

To confirm, the piece I need to pull out is inside that hole where the brass rod goes into?
 
When operating properly, where does the black bell crank reside?

No, it's about an inch below the area where your bell crank is currently. In the above picture it would be towards the bottom of the red circle. The bell crank should be sitting flush with the top of your box in the picture but there appears to be about an inch of space there.

I managed to source down the part and should have it sometime next week I hope. I can't wait to solve this problem
