Help, I installed the b&m shifter, cut the purple wire to supply to the relay.

Now no battery power registers on dash (checked its full volatage at fuse panel, at purple wire duringkey position start)

all Lights ok

No Horns (just kinda grind)
No start. Clicked few times now 0

Even connecting purple wire makes no change.

What gives? Feels like ground to me, but I never changed anything.

update: brake lights bright

reverse lights bright.

running lights dim.

bump!

help!!!

Heater fan ok.

Now horns wont even gurgle.

batttery down to 10 volts from all my plaing around with door open?

Had power through tach leads, all were discconected expect one side to HEI. wierd...

no radio.

checked both 10 gauge red and orange have power. Purple sends out power in key start.

checked and wiggled all connectors.

discconected battery and put charger on it.... try again tomorow.

every fuse has power.
any thoughts at all anyone?? Not even a good luck>??? ;(

ok after charge, have stereo and horns.

no start.

when i try to start even with purple wire disconnected (one I cut)
it resets the battery memory on the stereo, so
when i turn ignition, I lose all power.

Alternator hums when key is on, so I disconnected alternator. small lead plug in.

:bump: :wtf: :puke:

ummm Goodluck :|

Wish I could be of more help to ya. Just wanted to let you know that the thread isn't being ignored. I absolutely hate wiring :!:

Have you tried putting a different battery in?

Ok, lets think about this. You said you cut the purple wire, are you talking about the one that is 10gauge coming from the steering coulomb? If so, that is the crank wire to the starter. If you cut that one your car will not start. Try putting it back together and seeing if it starts...

Sorry, I just saw this now. I enjoy wiring. If the purple wire you're talking about is the same one that carguy mentioned, then yes, that would be a problem. If THIS is the case, you might want to do some soul searching, because you can't just cut an unknown wire when you're wiring something up, you need to understand the electrical system pretty well before you start cutting and splicing. My general rule is to not alter or touch factory wiring at all unless absolutely necessary. I leave this to hack alarm installers.

If the purple wire you cut is something different, you still need to figure out what it's for. If restoring the purple wire doesn't fix it, it does sound like it could be a ground to me. Here's what I would do. First, have the battery tested, not just voltage, but a load test, just to rule that out. If that's ok, then I'd check the grounds from the battery to the chassis and the motor. Pay attention to both terminals on the battery too, both where they connect to the battery, and where they connect to the leads. Then I'd check the ground from the motor to the firewall. Next I'd look at the power from the battery to the starter. Next, look at fusible links and fuses. It would be good to have a wiring diagram if it's stock, but you'll need a little more ingenuity if it's been modified. You'll be testing for continuity, and sometimes resistance. A bad connection can show continuity but still have high resistance. Overall, there IS a solution, it may be related to what you did recently, but it could also be completely unrelated and just coincidental. The coincidental ones always irk me, you need to keep an open mind when you're troubleshooting an odd electrical problem, it could be anything. I always just keep it in the back of my mind that, I KNOW there's a problem somewhere that can be fixed, I just have to FIND it. Some good luck is in order as well. 😉

Ok thanks,

As for randomly cuttinto into random wires. I am not that type of fellow. Believe you me, I checked, double checked, tessted with test light and volate meter to ensure purple wire is where I was going to install the realy connected to my microswitch. Just looking at why I couldn't nail this issue down.

So anyways, I charged bat, reconnected leads and radio, horns etc all working as normal. Best I can figure is that there was a loose connection to ground from wiring harness, or bad relay. I bought one to change but never had to touch it. Chime, horns, starter all work. Otherwise, I only had it running for 1 min or so, and I was seeing 19 volts put out.

I did add a 2 guage wire from battery to alternator, shortened the pigtail lead from the terminal, and tested circuit for brown wire leading to alt charge idiot lght showing 25ohms of resistance.

Everytrhing now is working as it should, with a functional backup light, and saftey neutral switch...

thanks for letting me know I wasn't being ignored!
