oh really? i never knew that... i'm looking to get another carb anyway, the one i have on there doesn't have an electric choke,.. what size carb do you suggest i should put on?.. i did have a holly 750 double pump on there but it just kept flooding

I'd get another carb to start with... 600 cfm isn't enough for a 350.
4bbl cars came from the factory with a 750.
The motor will run out of breath far short of what it's capable of.

Aren't q jets and holleys a completely different design? From what I know, they only used a couple different sized q jets on all engines, so you can't really determine what size carb you need from the q jet that came on it. I don't see any reason needing over a 650 cfm carb, and that might even be over kill.

I would say see how it runs with the carb you have first, then decide if you will need a different carb. Bigger isn't always better, especially with carbs.

the carb i have on there, is a 600, it is having some choke issues,.. i'm looking to get another one with an electric choke, because its easier.. so you think i shouldn't go over 650?

It would be best to see how it runs with the one you have now. You don't need the choke once the engine is warmed up. Make sure it is properly tuned and there is no vacuum leaks. You should be able to tell under full throttle if it is not enough carb, too much, or just right.

If you know all of the specs of your engine, you can probably go to Holleys or Edelbrocks website and they should have something where you plug in some info and it will tell you the best size carb.

i know that the carb does need tuning, and i'm not quite sure on how to do that, and i know that the vacuum lines do need to be hooked up, and thats one thing i'm having trouble with.

For a mild 350 ci engine, a 600 cfm carb is just fine. It may not want to rev high with it, but that is not as important as part throttle driveability. Before you go off spending money, learn to make what you have work well first. Only after you understand the workings of the parts you have can you make an informed decision on what you need.

As for a Quadrajet, they all have the same flow capacity. They are only limited in their actual flow by a small stop that is part of the secondary air valve shaft. If you cut it down, it becomes a 800cfm carb. However, it will never flow 800 cfm unless the engine actually needs it, provided it is set up correctly. If it is not set up right, it will bog down due to the excess air flow.
