Ok have cs130 alternator on my cutlass, directions say if you have a batt light you don't need a resistor. When I first installed alternator I wasn't sure if I had a working batt light since motor is not stock and ecm is gone, so I wired in 82 ohm 5 watt resistor that came with painless #30707 alternator pigtail. I put resistor in a very visible spot and it looked terrible. I also realized I had a battery light so I took resistor out. Battery light stayed on when motor was running. I did a little research and found alternator needs between 35-350 ohms and stock battery light only provided about 15 ohms....so I soldered resistor back in. Put it in a better location now. Except now battery light stays on still but dim. I checked resistor to make sure its still good, reads 69 ohms. Battery has 12.2v off and 14.2-14.4 running and alternator seems to be charging fine. Any input or help is greatly appreciated

Well Im officially puzzled, had a bad battery, swapped it out. Everything charges okay but still have dim lit battery light while engine is running

I used the stock connector from a 92 Chevy K1500. It had a resistor built in. Car also has a working charge light. Works great.

Also operating without the proper resistance can hurt the alternator.

Me too, GM replacement CS130 connector and my stock dash light in my El Camino. Works like a factory set up.

yes but maybe you guys got a smart CS130...

Check the wiring to be sure there are no bad connections, corroded terminals or breaking wires, the brown wire in the original harness causes the alternator to charge so any continuity issues with the circuit will cause this type issue. Also how many wires are in your plug in terminal? If more than just the brown wire be sure it's wired correctly.
