Ive tried 2 different multi meters and got the same reading with both i tested at the battery terminals and at the alternator output both using the battery ground. The light works because it comes on and goes off when i start the car.

if the alternator isn't charging the light would be on and like I posted if the alternator is not working the car will shut off if you disconnect the battery. I don't think you are testing it right

My battery is good and up until i had a problem with my alternator i could sit in my car for my hour lunch break and listen to my radio no issue car would turn rite on when i was ready to drive back to work. Now i cant even listen to the radio with the car off for 20 minutes. Im a mechanic and ive had my co workers test the alternator also and they got the same readings im starting to think its a ground issue but im not sure. I need to take and mess around more with it on my day off cars turning into a money pit. Next g body i get wont be my daily. Like i said i love the cutlasses but this ones starting to piss me off.

Not being able to run accessories for very long makes me think your battery is not being charged.

However, you say the alternator is new and should work and I am inclined to agree with you.

Also, it sounds like you are properly testing the voltage output of the alternator.

My best guess is somehow there is a bad connection from the alternator to the battery.

You are checking the voltage on both red wires in this diagram? The brown wire obviously goes to the charge indicator light which seems to showing that that part of the alternator is working. How many wires are in the plug that connects to the alternator?

And by all means, if you think it may be a ground issue (although it doesn't seem that way), check the ground connection from the alternator and battery.

Have your battery load tested.

I agree with this 100%, if you're just using a multi-meter to test the batt, then you're chasing ghosts... you can have 12.4 volts all day long, but if it has a weak cell, then it won't have the amps to back it up...
