I have nothing to add except that I recognize the makers mark (we called it a dog bone), Stelco Fasteners was my employer then and we made many, many millions of bolts for the General. Curious of one thing , does it have a raised "dot" under the head mark ?

personally I was happy to upgrade my bolts to 1/2" so they fit correctly and the cost of metric bolts is ridiculous..

I hear you. I did the same thing. I made this thread as a heads up because I was reluctant and thought drilling the brackets would be a pain but it was easy when I found out the bit would reach all the way through one side to the other of the brackets.

In my area we usually end up cutting out the bolts and if they do come out I wouldn't reuse them . 1/2 easy to find .But direct replacement some be oem type in my book
