Ok I have always been a Gbody guy, mostly Monte's. However this year I turned 40 and my Girlfrined said I could buy what ever I wanted. So after a search of over 6 months, today I'm picking up 1987 Olds Cutlass it's basically a Salon even though this model was not available in 1987.

It's 40,297 on it and looks like if came off the show room floor. It has the 14" rallys. However I'm not sure I like the little wheels with the wide side walls. I was wondering if it was possible to go with a 16" rim to lower the side wall height. I don't think that it will be a problem as long as I keep the tire side wal height to a minimum. Any thoughts would be great. PIC"S would be even better.

I don't pick up the car until tonight and I'll get pictures up ASAP.

Thanks again...

I've been on a few Forums so I will add this so we get it out of the way..LOL :worthless:

16 inch rims will fit with no problem. I think you can go up to an 18 inch wheel without trouble or mods, but i'm not sure there. Make sure you don't go too wide. Get the right backspacing and you will be fine.

Welcome to GBF. My front tires are 245/45/16 on 16x8's and my backs are 275/35/17's on 17x9.5's. I run summimotos(spelling?) and Ive noticed that tire manafactures will have the same quoted size but are actually physically different, so be careful when ordering. If you're looking for one size that will fit the front and back safely, I would recommend 245/55/16 or skinnyer on no wider than 16x7's wheels

You can actually go up to a 20" wheel with no problems, in fact I've even heard of people going to 22's, so you shouldn't have any problems with a 16. I don't have any pic's to show you but you can look through the custom's sec in the pic's post and probably find some. Let us know what you decide, pictures!

Thanks for the info, I thought it wouldn't be a problem. I might go with 17" But no bigger, I'm just wanting to fill up the well with a little more wheel than tire. I don't want to put some huge wheel on it... Something that looks good and takes up a little of the current space that is all tire now..

It's stock with only 40,*** miles on it I'm not going to cut it up.

What about the newer 93&up F Bodys??? I'm sure backspacing and offset will be a problem or......

You can use the 4th gen f-body wheels but you need 1-3/4" or 2" spacers. I had a set of ZR1 wheels (same size as 4th gen) on my car for about 10 minutes when my friend bought them for his IROC. They fit perfect and looked cool, but I do not ike the reverse off set (flat front) look. Wish I had photo's it though.
