Ya the wheels are kinda gay but they were cheap. Its been reliable so far. Except for the knocking problems i discussed before. I just rolled 200k so it should have some life left in it. The body will most likely rot away first(water leaks). All that said i'd still rather have my Hyundai for a route car, except the nissan has power steering.

Cool! (except for the wheels...lol) I love B13 Sentras! A car so good, you can still buy them new in Mexico and South America, where it has replaced the Beetle as the #1 seller. As for my Nissan, well... 307,500 miles as of tonight. Another 100 to be added tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day, and...

You can't knock a car that's reliable and cheap to run. That is what Nissan used to stand for, before the cheese-eating surrender monkeys took them over!

I go down to cancun almost every january and the first time i went down i noticed all of the sentras and beetles down there, its pretty much all they drive down there! i remember looking at a beetle and was like wow how did this guy make it look so modern so i asked the bar tender ot our resort and he told me they made that body style just like the old ones up until the new ones came out whenever that was. between those and the sentras its crazy. the only g body i have ever seen was a monte ss that looked pretty rough, i can help but wonder if it is one of those mexican monte ss's that came factory with a 350 and manual transmission??

Plastic intake manifold

I just bought a new Nissan Frontier pickup. The thing I'm concerned about in terms of long-term reliability is the nylon (plastic) intake manifold on these V6 engines. Anyone have experience with these plastic intakes on Nissan motors? Do they last long-term? If I take care of this truck, how many miles can i expect to get out of it? Thanks, Michael

Plastic intake manifolds have been around for quite some time, the 3.8 V6 in my mom's '94 Buick Regal has one so we are talking almost 15 years and no problems with it, I don't suspect one on a Nissan would be any different.

With any new car made by a respectable manufacturer, it's commonplace now to expect at least 10 years and 150k miles or more from a vehicle before they need any major repairs.

Uncletruck, I know they've been used for quite a while, but I had heard of problems with Chevy and Ford with these things. It just seems that plastic could not stand up to long-term hot - cold temperature swings in an engine like aluminum could. I hope it's durable!

I don't trust plastic intakes. I have seen too many of them go bad and require expensive replacement. I also don't trust open deck engine blocks, and timing belts. Open Deck blocks are why older Honda's have a reputation for blowing head gaskets, and timing belts require too much maintenance.

85CutlassBrougham, you are aware that Nissan has been using nylon intakes on most of their cars the last couple of years. Would that scare you away from buying a new Nissan with the plastic intake?

Yes it would. Nissan no longer makes good cars like they used to. Ever since the cheese-eating surrender monkeys took over quality has gone down hill. For a new car today, I really don't know what I would buy. The cars I do like are all $25-30k. The inexpensive cars are all built like crap. It's part of the reason I haven't bought a new car in 10 years. I really see very little benefit to buying something I don't really like that is no better than what I drive now. Is a Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris any cooler than an old pickup? Not really. Neither projects a cool image or status, so why bother? I may change my mind if the truck dies, but not yet.

I have to agree with you about plastic intakes. I sold a '99 Ford Ranger when I bought the new Frontier. The Ranger was rock solid with nary a problem over the seven years I owned it. Still going strong with only 97,000 miles on it, I just wanted something different after 7 years. I bought it in '01 with 35,000 miles on it. I still have my '98 Honda Accord EX V6 because it is such a good car. It now has 77,800 miles on it. Of course, most everything on my '87 Cutty 307 V8 is metal 🙂 I do really like my new Frontier truck though. I still think Nissan puts good quality into their cars and trucks. I have several family and friends who have bought '06, '07 and '08 models and all have been very good vehicles. Lets just hope my new truck is as reliable as my old Ranger truck.
