Anybody know good company that sells high output alternators at idle? My cam is pretty big and my power acc are dim at idle. Been dealing with this but I would like to upgrade.

Powermaster has a good rep.
I use their starters and alternators and never had any problem with Powermaster equipment.

I'm also in the market for a new high output alternator. Probably a 100 amp unit. My concern as your, is a good output at idle and low speed.

I've been looking at this site :
http://www.alternatorparts.com/chrome_alternators.htm

I don't need a fancy chrome unit. Powermaster is a good unit, but with times a little hard, I'm on a budget.

yea im on a budget too. I want to put all my interior speakers on an amp but no reason to do this till I get the alternator.

I wonder do they make a kit to turn your existing alternator into a high output one. Rebuilding an alternator is fairly simple just not cost effective to just buy a new or used with warranty. If the high output kit is bout the same as a new one then I might just rebuild it with the kit. Thats if they even sell one.

If you want a high output alternator, 100 amp to 120 amp; you have to have that frame to start with. It is possible to increase the voltage above 14 with a small control that mounts in/on the alternator.
Your best chance is to go junk yard shopping to find a high output.
The amp ratings are stamped on the housing. Ask the yard what they have to fit your engine. Some A and G bodies had them from the factory. You may need brackets also.

you do not want to raise the voltage, just the amps. changing voltage screws with the electronics.
one other easy way to go to a HO alternater is to convert to the cs-130 or newr ones. they came off of EFI cars and started at about 120a.

We put a 1985 Impala / Caprice alternator in. 108 amps. Bolt in. $90 at AutoZone, Lifetime Warrantly. I can get you the part number if you want.

i was using the alt from my dads 83 impala for a while. worked perfect, i work at autozone i can get the part number in the morning for you and get paid while getting it! lol

yes please get the part number. Now will these put out more amps at idle or overall? I know the make specific alts for big camshafts. By getting this alternator does it necessarily mean it will put out more amps at idle? I would prefer the 120amps one when you get the number. Thanks

I came across this also. Some of you said it was a direct replacement. Do I have to do this to get the alternator installed and working properly?
