I have a question for the body gurus here. Found a cowl induction hood for sale really cheap, but it's a fiberglass hood from a camaro. I was wondering if it would be worth trying to cut the scoop off that hood and bond it to my steel hood?

There around $200cad so is it worth your time to cut up the hood and cost of it? Plus cutting it off you could stress crack the fibreglass so you need a nice clean cut and you'll need a nice lip(3 cm's +) on the bottom side to attach it to your hood.

It's not the induction one l was thinking of. It's possible to cut it out, my only worry is at the top front is if that hit is into the gel coat. Me l would try it or Atleast have a look at it.

The bigger it is the more of a lip you'll need on it. If your going to attach it make sure you seal underneath where it contacts your hood or water could get under it. Rivet it down and than mould it into your hood.

I'd use a die-grinder with a 3"disk and slowly cut it off, but that's me.

That scoop is $157cad an up at Summit

I wouldn't do it. I'v never seen any hoods done that way that the body work doesn't F-up in a few years. Summit sells a Goodmark steel scoop for $160.00. Bond and or weld, it will hold up better. That's what I used for my El Camino.

That hood looks like a dried out cracked piece of poop.

By the time you are done with it you could have bought the correct one for less.

Look at some of the pics of our car - there are some hood shots. When we got the car that scoop was added on incorrectly - it was too far forward, not attached correctly, etc. So we removed the scoop, modified it minorly and remounted it. PITA is an understatement. But it was a cheap scoop and it shows. It has cracked, but the paint hides it pretty well. And we consider it the junk hood. When the exterior of the car gets a repaint (someday - lol) that hood will be in the dumpster.

My point, do not attempt to swap the scoop from one hood to another unless you aren't concerned about the final looks of it. Save your money.

I've toyed with the idea of cutting up a skylark hood and using the ram air style air cleaner on my engine. That, or the little flappy thing from a '70 Chevelle SS.

Here's a pic - it's a 20 footer
