Re: How do I convert my 2 wire pigtail to the 4 wire pigtail

Just finnished converting my 84 cutlass from SI altinator to a CS144 140 amp. It sounds like you still have the SI plug. It has a 12 g red wire and a 14 g brown or white wire. the red wire goes to the junction block/post on the back of the alrinator.
The CS plug (four wire) should have the pins lettered on it. the only ones you will use are the "S" and the "L". the S wire is the larger of the four. The S wire will go to the post on the altinator just like the SI altinator. The L wire will go to the brown or wite wire in the old harness. The only quistion is do you have a charge worning light in the dash or a guage?. If you have a lite you are done with the two connections. If you have a guage you need to put a resistor in line on the brown/white wire. Get it from redio shack. it needs to be between 35 and 350 oms. I used a 100 ohm, soldered it in and covered it with heat shrink. And you will need to check the power wire from the altinator to the battery. Mine was a 10 guage and it got hot very fast when the altinator started puting out 13.8v upgraded to a $7 4g wire frome advance and have no issues.

Napa has them also, Echlin part EC82. Not that there is anything wrong with wiring it yourself, just adding info for the people that don't like doing wiring.
