How do i find out what type of trans I have in my 84 Monte?

Need help figuring out what kind of trans i have in my 84 monte carlo with a V6 229 engine. I tried looking for serial numbers or trans codes but I still cant figure it out!!! And when I do find out what trans I have will it bolt up to a Gen I chevy 350 engine. Thanks.....

how long is the trans?

i'm assuming it's a 3-speed. if you're lucky it's a th350, good trans and it will bolt to a v8. if you're unlucky--most likely--it's a th200, f^ckin' piece of sh*t. in which case throw it out and get a 200-4r 4-spd overdrive and necessary parts.
