how do i know which trans i have ?

super newb here but very willing to learn..my Q i have a 78 cutlass with 260 ... how would i tell which trans i have ? all i know is its a 3spd auto. pls excuse my lack of knowledge but with your help i will get upto speed (i hope)

Crawl under the car and count the pan bolts for starters, if it has 11, you have a 200, if 13, it could be a th350, or a th250. To verify between 250 and 350, the 250 has a band adjustment bolt behind where the trans cooling lines go in (about the same level as the upper). The th350 does not have this bolt.

Its really easy, if your transmission still works, its probably a 350
