I have a Cutlass dash trim with the the rear defogger cutout. I want to remove the painted on 'R DEFOG' above the cutout since I will be using this for a different function. So how do I remove this paint without scratching the nice 'fake wood paneling'?

Paint thinner probably would be to strong, maybe screw up that fake wood shine....

Rubbing alcohol, Nail polish remover or Goo-Gone.....
I would try rubbing alcohol first that or goo-gone would be the mildest.

More than likely the area around it has faded so if you remove the letters you might have a shadow effect left where the sun didn't fade under the letters.
