If you can't get it out I'd push it into the pan and use a long magnet to try to get it out by the filler plug. If that doesn't work I'd put a magnet on the pan near the drain, fill up the oil with cheap stuff and turn the engine over without firing it up to move the oil around and the broken piece should end up on the magnet and then maybe you can get it out.
thats an idea that i was debating on with a coworker about.....Im not sure that I could work it back up the filler tube because of the shallow part of the pan at the front. But getting out from the drain hole might be a better route. Im trying to remember if my pan has a baffle in it or not. Its a stock pan. Thanks!

I forgot about the baffle. Here's a pan that is supposed to be from a 307 and the tube is close to the edge of the baffle so it might work as a last ditch attempt to remove it with the pan in place. With the front of the car lifted I think it should drop into the deep part of the pan. I hate these type of problems that are small in nature but could create alot of work

If you have the room (likely not) you could try to tap tube with a few threads, then screw a slide hammer into place and yank it out that way.

I've heard of this being done but have a feeling it could be a pain to get all those tools in such a small amount of space.

any updates?
well....its been as cold as I can remember here which hasnt helped much....I had the car outside till it got really bad...so i put the manifolds back on, the starter back on...drove it into the garage...and there she sits till I can get under her again. Looking into buying a lift cause Im gettin tired of laying on the ground....too old for that sheet!.... so that has slowed me down a bit....Ill keep ya posted....

Just wondering...do you (or anybody else) know where I can find the lock pliers with a slide hammer in the handle...I could probably get it out with that ....lol Ive seen it on tv, but not sure who makes it or sell it.

Thanks in advance.....

do you think snap on or a matco truck could have one?

Had the same thing happen to me, after trying most of the previous suggestion I ended up having to bite the bullet and drop the pan. It sucks having to do so much work because of a stupid problem. :blam:

I'm not positive that this will work but if u can get a bolt that fits in snug and put some crazy glue or red lock-tite and then you can maybe pry on it and pull it out. You will have to clean the surface first with brake cleaner you will have to change your oil after if you get some in the pan. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the idea... Im gonna try the slide hammer lock pliers with a thin rod bent at the end to catch the tip of the tube....I'll let ya know if this works.
