I know exactly what you guys mean. In my case I don't understand why I get so many people asking. My car isn't the best looking example of an '86 Monte Carlo. The left fender needs replaced because of a large dent and the previous owner primered the left side of the car and the right fender and quarter panel. Maybe they think because of how it looks that I'll sell it for a few hundred dollars or something. I also usually just give them some ridiculously high price and that usually shuts them up. Some people actually have enough sense to ask if it's for sale first, but not that many.
