think I should replace my fuel pump... how do I go about picking a new one?

sbc350, cam 495lift 282duration, roughly 10.5:1 compression with flattops and 58cc aluminum heads, big intake, Holley 750DP mechanical secondary carb. Car is street/strip and is regularly drag raced (once a month in the summer). Looking for a replacement mechanical pump.

the pump I have now is OE, looks like a Carter M6624 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CRT-M6624/
if you look that up, it flows 40gph, with 5.5 to 6.5psi

I've heard I should see roughly 7 to 8 psi at the carb. But I don't have a gauge, and don't know what psi the stock one produces. I've also heard, for racing applications, it helps to use a over-rated pump with a regulator.

let's see what you guys have to say...
what pump would you recommend for my application?

Hey Khan most factory pumps produce about 3 to 5 psi, I believe you can run up to 7 psi without a regulator or so I have read. I would look for a pump with at least 3/8 inlet and outlet and no less than 7 psi, up to you if you run a regulator at that psi. That carter pump has a higher psi than a factory pump. I am looking at running this pump on mine. This one requires a regulator.

Step 1: Go to Summitracing.com
Step 2: Put the pump in the cart.
Step 3: Receive the pump.

Job Done.
