I'm changing both gaskets for my valve covers since they're leaking a little to I figured I should...how can I remove them easily? and I have all the smog crap still hooked up even though my computer is disconnected lol. would I be able to replace both of the gaskets within 1-1/2hrs?
Sometimes, the best way to figure out how long a job is going to take is just to start doing it. By the time you get an answer, you might already be done... The easiest valve covers in the world would still probably take me 4 hours, because I'd strip them down, and paint them, and clean the gasket surfaces real good, and refinish the hardware.
well thats the thing, i only have an hour and a half to 2 hrs to do them because i can only do them at boces, i have no time with school and work and thats the only time ican really do them, aand i didnt wanna leave my car there over night. just dont trust thise b*st*rd kids haha
General rule of thumb with old cars is that a job that should take an hour will take 3x that if you are doing it for the 1st time... just seems to be how it goes. If you only have an hour window, don't do it that day. Give yourself plenty of time.
There will be some things on the passenger side you need to remove. My smog pump is long gone so I can't remember if any of that has to go to get access to the cover. You should be able to wiggle it out without completely removing the EGR although it's a little tricky. Aside from that it's just a matter of getting the wiring and vaccum hoses out of the way.
