This is the third time since 2013 that I've rebuilt my Howe. This time I'm sharing. The O rings were the culprit 2 out of the 3 rebuilds. The bearing went out after I splashed through a puddle of water a few years back. I've learned to keep a spare O ring kit and bearing just in case.
The Howe TO bearing is relatively easy to rebuild and actually is a very sturdy and well designed piece. (Thanks again Pontiacgp)

Some of my pics won't upload. The ones that did show the The lock ring on the front removed. Then the piston is easily pushed back and out of the housing. After removing the O rings I see the smaller one is torn.

Well the O ring tore because of burr in the piston caused by burned rubber. I put a little gasket remover on the burr but I eventually cleaned it up with a little piece of emory cloth.

Why can't they last at least 100k miles like OE cylinders? What's so different about them?

Maybe that's why so many guys are using the OE slaves and masters when they do a T56 conversion.
