Well, crap. Stopped at the stoplight at the Elliott on ramp to I-10 and a guy slammed into me from behind. I guess he couldn't see the two alternating lane stoplights and a freakin Malibu wagon down there 100 yards in front of him. At least he was legal, had insurance, and didn't run.

The wagon's rear is pretty well hosed. You can't really see it but it's bent all the way up to the rear door, kind of folded down, and the frame is bent underneath. When I was hit, the bench seat back bent backwards about a foot and the steering wheel bent out almost 90 degrees, but the seat belts worked and my head bounced off the headrest. So apparently no damage to the driver.
I bent the wheel and seat more or less back in place and drove it home.

Now I'm going to take a walk and be depressed.

Later.

Awww man...I'm so sorry to see and hear that...what a shame. Looks like a nice clean wagon, too. I hope you at least get a healthy settlement ..or at least enough for a nice replacement. 🙁 Man that sucks...what more can I say.
On the brightside, at least you weren't hurt.

I'm so sorry bro, hope all goes well 😢

That sucks. What the hell is with people? I mean you are looking AHEAD when you drive, right? I got rear ended a while back and I was glad I hadn't put my better bumper on yet. That tailgate is whacked.

You'd be surprised how much of that will pull out on a frame bench with a tech that know's what he's doing. Pretty repairable, just not worth the cost to do so to most insurance companies.
If it was closer, I'd buy it and fix it.

At the very least, retain it and part it...buyback is usually only a hundred or two on our cars.

Thanks for the comments. Jeez - 2 1/2 years and all that work, just gone. It was just getting to where I wanted it, too.

I don't have skills to fix it, so I guess first I'll see what kind of fight I have with the insurance company and then try to find another wagon. I've learned a lot, so I'll try to be more picky this time around.

In the meantime, it's still my DD, so I'll be driving it to work again tomorrow. No broken rear lights, they all still work.

awww man thats wack that was one clean wagon(i kno cuz i seen it in person)... well i hope u can find another one.. there is a guy out in mesa/tempe/chandler?? lol i dont remember exactly were he is but he has a nice collection of wagons and i kno h recently had one on craigslist ..if i come accross him ill let you kno

I hate it when that happens! Hey, if you decide to retain the wagon maybe one of us might buy it to fix it up. I work at a body shop and it's not that hard to pull that back into shape, it's the insurance company that won't pay to have it repaired, they'd rather junk it and move on. LOL!!

OMG that's a total bummer. Good that you weren't hurt. Did you see it comming? I have thought to put a second horn at the back bumper for the drivers that don't know WTF is going on. Good luck in finding another wagon that's worthy.

Thanks, man. It happened quick. I had my window down, heard tires squealing from really close behind and at a fairly high speed. I think he was probably on his cell phone at the time and not paying attention. Pretty much knew right then that he was gonna get me, but I didn't look in my rearview mirror, so didn't see what kind of car it was. I thought of flooring it, but no time ( - It's funny what you notice at times like that; I noticed that the light turned green just after impact).

Oh, and it was a dark blue Kia that did all that damage. The Kia wasn't drivable afterwards.
