I hate it when that happens! Hey, if you decide to retain the wagon maybe one of us might buy it to fix it up. I work at a body shop and it's not that hard to pull that back into shape, it's the insurance company that won't pay to have it repaired, they'd rather junk it and move on. LOL!!

That's a good idea. Kuruption already sent me a link to a wagon that's for sale here in the Phoenix area and I'm sure there are few more out there somewhere. Right now I'm concerned about the guy's insurance company trying to beat me up on the value, so settlement may take awhile.

Go see your Dr. and or chiropractor and complain about alot of neck and middle/lower back pain...with the rear damage to your car you should have some pain (hint hint)...ride that sh*t out with the dr. visits and get paid...if where you live is anything like Atlanta you should have some paralegal middlemen blowing your phone up asking if you're ok and trying to get you to the doctor...before you know it you'll have a fresh new ride..

I think I'd also look into...ahem!...neck injury, back pain,.loss of feeling. Not to get greedy, but to be able to get a healthy settlement for your car..etc.
And you're right..the insurance companies will try to screw you as much as they can.
Good luck, man!

Thanks for the comments. Jeez - 2 1/2 years and all that work, just gone. It was just getting to where I wanted it, too.

I don't have skills to fix it, so I guess first I'll see what kind of fight I have with the insurance company and then try to find another wagon. I've learned a lot, so I'll try to be more picky this time around.

In the meantime, it's still my DD, so I'll be driving it to work again tomorrow. No broken rear lights, they all still work.

I was sandwiched between the car that hit me and the car in front of me that got pushed into the car in front of them with the impact. I listed what upgrades I had done since owning the car and what I had done in the last 90 days. The insurance company told me the damage was to extensive to fix and offered me the book value. Like yourself my car was still on the road so I told them they could find me another car like mine if they didn't want to fix it. If they have you in a rental they have the upper hand by giving you an offer and if you refuse it they cancel the car rental. They did find me another car but it was long distance away and I didn't like the color. They offered the estimate on the damages and I kept the car. I got $3,570 for an 85 GP and drove it till I found my current GP. Don't let them force you into an agreement your not happy with. You might want to get an estimate so you know what the damage is worth.

Eh, that'll buff out.

Don't worry about it man, if you love the car enough you'll do anything to fix it up again and put it on the road. I know if that happened to my Buick, the first thing I'd be doing is looking for a new tailgate and bumper, and a body shop to straighten everything else out. If the insurance company doesn't want to touch it, then buy it back (shouldn't be too much for our cars) and fix it up. No matter what though, don't get too depressed! Remember that the car is replaceable (and for that matter most of the parts on the car are too, there's not much you can do short of absolutely destroying these cars that'll make repairs impossible) but YOU are not! The car did it's job of saving your life and preserving your health.

As far as finding funding to get sh*t done? Do what lg1200 said to do. Teach that ignorant moron how to drive by hitting him where it hurts; the wallet. If you have any reservations about doing this because you believe it to be amoral, then remember that if your car were newer, it would probably be repaired instead of being deemed not cost effective to do so. You were wronged, and as compensation you simply want your car repaired, which is perfectly justifiable... he broke it, he should fix it, it shouldn't matter how old it is. If the insurance company will not compensate you in that way, then you will have to find a way to procure the means of getting what you want.

Well, the insurance guy came by a few minutes ago to take pictures and go work up an estimate on it. He wouldn't make any statements at this point, so I didn't really learn anything yet. He said I should get his response in 2 or 3 days. I can't imagine they would actually fix it, but if they do, great. If not, whatever the offer, it's not nearly enough!

What sucks is that the blue book is very low on the malibu wagon. My 80 is 900 buck. i have classic ins. on mine and i save every reciept.
