its not a malibu but i have a 79 cutty cruiser for sale pics in classifieds

dragonmaster, I appreciate the offer. I'm not sure yet if I would go for a cutty or not, used to have one back in 78 and it was a fine car except for the little 260 engine, which I despised. But you are a lot further away than I want to go. I hope to find a desert car if possible.

Thanks,

Bob

You're right, the picture doesn't look that bad. Shucks. I also dumped a '79 Formula my Kid wrecked because the sail panel buckled from a head-on so I feel your pain. At least the motor lives on in my Bonnewagon.

What does the local guy want for his?
From the sound of it, he thinks he has gold..

Actually I guess it wasn't that bad. He wanted $2500.00 but wouldn't negotiate it down any, and the things he valued, like the original 305 engine, th350 and original interior (raggedy and dried up), just didn't excite me. I would need to replace all that with mine, which is fine, but I don't want to pay for things that I see as having no value.

Maybe I just need to wait a bit until the mood hits me.

It's going to be hard finding one with a perfect interior. Good interior parts are getting harder to find, especially all the plastic trim.
I could understand your apprehension. I would wait for the right car, and best example you can find for the money.

That's true.

My interior is pretty decent now, the th2004r overdrive transmission is ok, and my 305 is a center bolt that pulls up to 5K. So the ideal car would have a great body and paint job, and have either a good 350 engine, or a worn out engine, or none at all. Same for the transmission - if no 4 speed standard, then something worn out is fine.

I don't want to buy, say, a rebuilt 1979 305 engine or rebuilt 350 transmission. They would have to come out, and those things don't have much of a market or any value around here if I try to sell them on craigslist.

Bob,
if you could find something relatively decent where you could take your better parts and swap them onto it.
And again, it might have a bad interior, and possibly bad paint...and or some minimal rust. It's up to you as far as how much work you're able to accept.
As Ribbedroof said, the clean grandma cars have pretty dried up, and many have been hacked up into racecars or would be customs.
I'm sure you'll find something decent. Sometimes they appear right in your own backyard, so to speak..usually when you're not looking too hard.

Thanks, Jack.

That's exactly what I'm going to try to do. The wagon passed emissions today - took two tries, CO was high, so had to lean out the Q-jet a bit - so now I can take my time. I've seen a few nice 4 doors and coupes already; lots of Caminos out there in decent shape, too; but I really want another wagon. I think I'll know the right one when it comes along.

Bob,
After owning a nice one, you'll know when the right one comes along. It might not be a bad idea to pick up something like an El Camino or Malibu coupe that you could later resell...or even a nice 4-dr would be a great daily driver.
Let us know what you find in your travels.
Good luck, man!
