I'm kind of new to the rear end stuff, so after doing some research, i decided to go with the ford 9 inch rear for my 82 bonneville. So i bought the housing from ebay it Comes with 1/2" Big Bearing Ford Housing Ends, New Rubber Upper Bushings, 52.5" Wide (Same width as factory). But im confused on the axles. My question is, "do i use g body axles, or do i use some modified ford axles. Like i said, im kind of new to the rear end stuff, so how does GM axles work with a FORD center cection. help me out here

Try that link I put in the last reply. They should have what you're looking for or at least give you a good reference.

You need custom axles made for the Ford housing. However Moser, Currie or just about any other manufacturer that sell bolt-in G-body 9" housings will also have the proper axles that you need.

Obviously the stock GM axles won't work. Take a look at the Ford housing. One axle tube is longer than the other which means one axle is a different length than the other.

Will the axles have to be completly custom for this housing, or can i just order them from somewhere

No, you can order off the shelf axles for a G-body 9" housing. What I was getting at in my post above is that ALL axles for a Ford 9" with the stock G-body width are "custom" and that you can just grab an axle from any 9" since none were made as narrow as the G-body. That's all.

But if you order axles for a Ford 9" in a G-body you'll be fine. I have that same housing with Moser 31 spline axles in mine.

The seller is Quick Performance, contact them and they should be able to set you up with everything you need. If you contact them prior to your housing being shipped you might save a few bucks by combining shipping. They will need to know a few things like 28 or 31 Spline etc.

I purchased a bolt in 9" from quick performance in the past as well. They will sell you the axles you need. If I remember correctly you can choose from a couple different brands that they sell. I personally went with Moser because they pay contigency money at certain races. However, if that's not an issue, I'm sure that the other names would be fine for every day use. You won't be dissapointed with Quick Performance. And like others have stated, there will be a noticable difference in the length of each axle.
