Most of these guys are against big wheels so some of the recomendations jump straight to the converter may be biased... most of the tired smog dressed 305s can burn rubber with deuces...I witnesed many...lol
I only mentioned the big tires because it's a contributing factor. The same thing applies to 4X4 guys. The larger the diameter, the less effective torque your engine can put to the ground. You need lower gears to compensate.
The converter takes the place of a clutch. If you were to rev your manual transmission car up to 1500rpm and drop the clutch it won't launch very hard and may even stall. If you rev the same car up to 2500rpm and drop the clutch you get a much better launch. That's why you need to match the converter's stall speed to the cam.
To determine your stall speed just put one foot on the brake and one on the gas. The highest RPM is your stall speed. Higher HP engines will have a higher stall speed than a lower HP engine using the same converter. That's why they rate aftermarket converters in a range (like 2200-2400) instead of a specific RPM.

Glad the timing helped out. Not sure a bigger carb is going to make a difference if all you're concerned with is burnouts.

I was thinkig the same thing "DRIVEN" dont think a bigger carb will make a difference... I think im good were im at know.. As long as i can burn rubber im good... I dont want to abuse my baby either lol.. Just a cruiser and some burn outs here and there.. And i think i got it 🙂

The problem with advancing the base timing too much over the stock setting is that while you get more oomph down low, you may have too much TOTAL timing up top. This is where recurving the distributor comes in handy. You can recurve your distributor so you can run lots of intitial timing ( like in the upper teens or even into the 20's ) but still give you a 'normal' amount ( usually about 36 degrees ) at high RPM's. This will give the engine much more grunt down low and make the best power up top ( and with no detonation ).

There are other ways, but I would get a dialback timing light and check your total timing. You could be leaving lots of power on the table.

Just alittle update:

fwiw low profile tires like says a 30 series are easier to spin than a tire the same height with a tall say 70 series sidewall. However the low profile tire is much better at cornering. Seems like easy common sense but for some reason a lot of guys don't realize this.

DoubleV's post is very informative. You should try and apply that as well and you will like your ride better and better.

I couldn't agree more... 🙂

Dont quite know what that means but im very happy with it... Timing was off, adjusted and runs like a champ.. Thank guys..

No pigleg... Both rims turn.. Was getting alot of bad comments becuase of both tires not spinning

HERE U GO!!

Much love 80zbabiez

:? Why would you want to do burnouts with 22s? I have 22s on my magnum and suburban, and the rubber ain't cheep. I'll save the burnouts for my 16s. Glad you worked out what was wrong though.

After those burnouts in your driveway where's the video of your neighbor with a shotgun chasing you...
