I've been a diehard GM intermediate guy all of my life. Bought my 65 Malibu SS in 79 and my 81 Malibu in 97. I've had numerous A and G body's over the years but I gotta say...I love my CJ 5. But , I also know what the OP is talking about...

My dad drives a 2 door Rubicon. They are good offroad vehicles, better than a pickup or SUV in that regard, 2 door Jeeps also fit into tight parking spaces better too with their short wheelbase. However, they lack the everyday utility that pickups and SUVs offer. It is a PITA to get into the rear seats and the cargo area size is lacking. Even the Rubicons lack some pretty basic items like mud flaps and sill guards, even G bodies come with those and they aren't offroad. Despite being a hardtop Jeep, it still leaks in the rain. I personally would not buy one after seeing my dad's Jeep but still would prefer one over a SUV.

Thankfully I never seen this Jeep culture thing that much and my Dad isn't really into that. Jeeps are not the only vehicles with a anoying cult following. Back in his young days, dad used to drive a rusty 74 Land Cruiser that he misses which is why he got a Jeep.

I had to drive my 83 Bonneville this winter due to a mishap with my daily driver, and the funny thing is with 4 firestone winterforces, (20575r15 on the Monte SS wheels) as opposed to the 235/60/15 it drove/handled fine, 3.8 started every day even at 20 below zero (Buffalo NY) well the Bonny is getting some TLC now due to the salt monster. I also have a 78 Lemans 2 door as well. The Jeep thing is overdone. I have two friends at work who like them a lot, so Im not hating on these guys, they are cool with their jeeps but the one motor drinks oil at 1 qt every 1000 miles, and after looking at some of the costs on axles to replace stockers (7500 for a Mopar/Dana 60 axle that actually bolts in and has a warranty) bumpers that cost 1600 dollars and a a lot of useless crap these things are just not with it. Visability and blind spots are horrendous. Give me any domestic fullsize truck built in our G era 1978-1986, and with not a lot of modification they will out wheel these jeeps no sweat. I think these other guys think they are on safari, well heads up jeep sticker mafia, last I checked your never that far away from civilization, so give up looking for Dr Livingstone. That nonsense about its a Jeep thing you wouldn't understand, well homeslice, Im a mechanic, and I understand all these Jeeps are swingin with Bruce Gender Bender. I don't know about the gay wave either, Id throw em the state bird of texas personally. Though it can be worse, the knee slappin flat biller/Monster energy crowd kinda smokes the white owl, and the whole diesel thing is annoying too, rollin coal is usually followed by inbreeding. I guess these dudes never rolled a hard core G/A/or B body. Just makes me happy to have grown up with true fun cars to own, fix, enjoy. To end it all I was in a real affluent place in winter with the Bonny and a 100K Jag pulled up next to me. Owner was a decent guy, but it was funny how many people asked about the G (all the trim is shaved, no name plates, has a gold/black Hurst look, simple and clean) . I know my car is prob only worth a couple grand at best, but It was neat to talk to so many people who just were perplexed about the mid eighties drive by car and what it was, as well as how effortlessly it handled 8 inches of snow. Keep rollin strong brothers.
