I gotta vent for a minute - Jeeps

I had a Dodge W250 with the first gen Cummins. I made a huge profit selling the truck on EBay, but that would have been great motor for the K30. It had a permanent case of paint mange. After many touch-ups, it started to look kind of stripey, so the previous owner finished out the job using a pictures from the internet, a viewgraph machine from work, and a few rolls of masking tape. And a few beers, I think. The brakes were a bit scary, though.

I like Jeeps but the whole craziness thing is no different than the single-gear-track-bike-with-no-brakes-for-commuting craze. Stupid. But probably no different than any other "I'm better than you" mentality. I do enjoy getting to use my SAE tools again, 1/2" and 9/16" everywhere. But I can see the creeping crud of Chrysler engineering infiltrating the brand. I used to work on real Army Jeeps and what we have now is a far, far cry.

Mark, when I worked in a shop in Florida we had a guy come in with a real old Jeep and he wanted the engine rebuilt. Luckily one of the guy's grandfather knew about the leather seals used in that engine.

I have a friend with a WWII survivor. He showed me how you could flip up the passenger headlight so it could illuminate the engine so you could fix the mule in the dark if you had to.

Oh yeah the older ones are cool. I wouldn't even be opposed to owning one, but the craze is out of control. Maybe it just because I live in Buffalo these things are more popular. Almost every last one has aftermarket wheels. They act like ther truck has the power of an H2 and the swagger of a sports car. It's ridiculous. All these Guido guys and girls think the are so. Cool. No one gives a crap.

Both my daughters have Cherokees and they get horn beeping, headlight flashing, thumbs-ups from all kinds of yahoos. As if every other vehicle on the road around here wasn't a Jeep. Sheesh. Hey Steve I remember yanking the passenger seat out just so I could install a heater (?!?) up under the dash board for my CO so his tootsies could be warm. I had to hide it well so the Battalion CO wouldn't see it. Seems he was against any "p*ssy-*ss" luxuries. More likely that HE didn't have one so nobody could! We were Combat Engineers so the fording kit and pioneer tools got used a lot. Boy, I could get all four wheels off the ground if I was drinking!

yeah one "trend" i canNOT stand!!! hair spraying big hair, and these damn "skinny jeans" hanging off your *ss?!?!?! WTF?!?!

When I bought my first Jeep for the winter I joined up with a local online forum but I cancelled that. I would get criticized if I didn't want to take my jeep off roading and to leave the stock wheels on it was sinful....then there was guys with Jeeps who stored them in the winter...:wtf:
