I'd like to think that the auction just expired rather than someone being batshit crazy enough to pay $700 for headlight bezelsMore "Yikes!"
I got an email about these, but apparently no longer available? WTF? Either way, I don't need them, but if someone paid the asking price...YIKES!

I think it's more a supply/demand issue plus the fact that more and more G-bodies are having asking prices waaaay up there nowadays. The price of the car goes up, so will the factory parts that fit it. When was the last time you saw NOS black inserted headlamp bezels? Plenty of repros to be had, but they're not cheap either. And a LOT of car parts, not just restoration parts, are going up in price as well. I've seen GM NOS weatherstrip for older A-bodies go for $500 PER SIDE! That's a bit rich for my blood.
There are some people that just don't GAF and will ask astronomical prices for them. And there's someone out there that has more money than brains and will pay it. That's the guy they're fishing for. All it takes is one.
well, if you know how to make templates from the existing parts that we currently own as spares that would be even better! But, that is both inflation and supply and demand coming into play. The whole supply chain is out of control and the costs are being passed on to us. Unfortunately these aren't blue collar cars any longer... especially not the pristine examples. The days of us buying and building them on a Mac n' Cheese budget are long gone.
Soon it is going to be more cost effective to DIY with the investment in tools, raw materials, and time than looking for a cheque book solution.
Anyone considering 3D scanning and printing unique parts could make a killing with the good enough crowd.
Funny you should say that I have my cousin looking for the plastic cover that goes over the hump in the floor tunnel in a manual transmission car so I can have someone I know 3D print me one. Unfortunately he can't find his. We both remember seeing it 20 some years agowell, if you know how to make templates from the existing parts that we currently own as spares that would be even better!
