i am constantly looking on craigslist looking for parts, engines, transmissions and i found a 1974 cadillac 472 with a th400 for 500 bucks.

it was listed just a couple days ago and i havent seen a cadillac engine listed in quite a while. by tomorrow i'll have the money to get it but i hope i dont jinx myself with this thread. the listing says its complete minus the carb, has headers and an edelbrock intake. the headers probably wont fit my car but the intake new costs 325 bucks so that's a big plus. HOPEFULLY i can get it. i have no idea how i'm going to get it home but if i have to take it apart i will. i was hoping for a 500 but i'll take a 472, i dont look a gift horse in the mouth. i'm praying nobody else bought it yet.

Re: i hope i dont jinx myself with this thread...

it means i'm not gonna be nitpicking over what i'm getting. 472 beats 231. like it owes it money.

i called and the engine is still available but he said someone else was interested but as he put it "money talks" and i have the money. the guy is out of town till sept 7th though so i have a week to wait. he'll even deliver it to my house!

the headers are some big chevy block huggers with the exhaust flange cut off and a custom flange put on. the guy told me it was in an s-10. i have no idea how you get a cadillac engine in an s-10 but if the headers fit in that they'll probably fit in my car. the engine really is complete minus the carb and A/C compressor. hopefully by next weekend i'll have the engine and transmission sitting in my shed.

Free delivery? WOW! Sounds like a score to me!

Re: i hope i dont jinx myself with this thread...

when i talked to him i mentioned i had to make arrangements to have someone with a truck to help me get it to my house and he said he'd deliver it since the distance isnt very far, 10 miles at the most. and he has a cherry picker so getting it off the truck wont be an issue either. i'll need to get a dolly to put it on to move it up the driveway since my car isnt running at the moment (i was hoping to find an engine to transplant into it) and thank goodness i have an engine stand! now i have to get rid of the chevy short block i have sitting on the stand. it's a 1974 010 standard bore block and i COULD keep it as a back up or for another car in the future. wouldnt hurt to grease it and store it i suppose.

he also said it's been switched over to a rear sump so that's another plus.

Re: i hope i dont jinx myself with this thread...

so everything seems to be a go with this. i called the guy earlier today to confirm he was going to be in town tomorrow and he is, some time in the afternoon. he said he would call and make arrangements for delivery of the engine. once i get it i'll post some pics. this is gonna be fun going from a 231 V6 to a 472 V8. more than double the displacement and the power too.

i'm not looking forward to buying all the stuff needed to shoehorn the engine into the car as none of it seems to be cheap but it's worth it. better than a sbc swap any day!

Nice score!

I've had a little dream of a big Caddy since Mike P first started posting up his car's build thread and hearing about dogshit's caddy powered 442.

Please post pictures and updates about the process of installing it. This may be the last straw in convincing me to sell all my forged SBC parts to go this route.
