Wacky problem. Hoping someone can shed some light on it.

Also check the OEM operators manual if you have it. Yours should lock doors after selector put in drive. There is a fuse to disable this function. This is mentioned in the operator manual. I had a 94 Beretta which is basically the same car / same problem. Check that fuse. Sounds like you have an intermittent problem in that circuit.

Thanks for your reply, Eric,
It certainly is an intermittent problem.
It does lock the doors when put in drive. However, while driving, the door locks switch on and off like it's possessed. I have the operators manual and it does indicate a fuse to disable automatic door unlock. I assume it will be able to lock, but to unlock, it would have to be done manually?
I have checked that fuse and it isn't blown. I will remove it and see what happens. Thank you my friend, I'll let you know what happens.

Hope it helps
Thanks Eric,
I removed the fuse, and after driving the car around the block, I noticed that the doors don't unlock automatically. I could live with that rather than having the locks open and close sporadically. I'll keep an eye on it.

Btw, do you know where the power door lock relay was located on the Beretta ? 🤔

Might be passenger side. If I remember correct mine had two fuse boxes one on drive side and one on pass side.

The only fuse box I'm aware of is on the passenger side inside the glove box, which is of course where I pulled the fuse for the door unlock.

IIRC that was the side I pulled it from, but remember another set of fuses on driver side. It's been awhile...

I have the lower dash panel removed on the driver side, but really don't see anything resembling a fuse box or block. I had the passenger side dash panel removed yesterday and it was the same deal. It might be deeper under the dash. I'll get back under there with a stronger flash light.

Might not be there, it was quite a while ago.

I had the 94 Beretta Z26 and I had the unmarked undercover lights in it. So I do remember the fuse box on the passenger side I'm thinking there was one also on the driver side that was a long time ago.

The first problem I had with the automatic locking doors was right after I picked up the car I was in a slight rain so the doors were shut, windows were up, engine was running, shifter was in park. When I returned to the car after being away for about 15 minutes, the car had automatically locked its doors.

In my case I pulled that one fuse like it said in the operator manual, and then the gauge package didn't work. The other issue I had was when I was on a traffic stop I couldn't open the driver's door.

I actually had to have the car in Park, shut the engine off and then it allowed me to unlock and open the door. Totally stupid. But during this time back in the 90s is when GM and all the other automakers were putting in these safety devices that would control the door locks and yes some of them didn't make sense.

Have you considered the BCM? I suspected that when my '04 truck was doing this and other things but it turned out to be the Clifford alarm system. With so many control modules and relays the newer vehicles are a nightmare.
