The oils in your skin will will screw up the urethane (or whatever you use to install it). I have see it happen a few times, even happened to me once. On an Olds I had once, was driving down a dirt road and the windshield 'popped' right out. Luckily the top stayed secure, but the sides and bottom totally let go. Was nice for air circulation though lol.
Window weld Primer and urethane alone costs much more than $42. Also It is against the law to use butyl rubber now days.
Some things are better left to a pro. Most ft and rear glass is considered structural .
What he said. I put a new windshield in my Buick wagon, they are different than for doors, and it cost me 85 bucks. The glass guys is an employee of a friend who owns a mobile glass company, so he put it in for free. No tape any more. But, on could buy the primer and the urethane for a caulk gun, and put it in themselves. I have removed and replaced 30+ pieces of glass, windshield, rear and side glass, and only broke one. If they are done right, you can do it.
Like me, I had to pull a perfectly good windshield to fix rust, so I just bought a new windshield, tired of the old 30 year old sandblasted glass, lol.
