CUTLASS I thinks wiring is my problem

Yo what’s up guys I’m new to the forum… but I just got me and 86 cutlass with the v6 but wires is all over the place…they told me the engine ran bt as soon as I try to connect the battery it shooting spark….can some please help is the a book or something I buy that will show me where what goes with what
 
i bought a factory service manual on ebay shooting sparks like that sounds like the battery cable is grounding out somewhere maybe on the exhaust

I'm sure someone hacked it up and just left bare wires, some twisted some not. It might be wise to inspect about every inch of wiring that you can see, and if you're real lucky you can simply resplice some of them back together without having to add to it or start over. Adding extra ground straps is always a good idea though.

Haynes has a Tech Book (#10420) titled Automotive Electrical Manual, Workbench SA has Automotive Wiring and Electrical Systems (SA160), and those in conjunction with the diagrams provided by other members will get you going. If you see a wire that's not in a diagram just snap a pic and post it here- someone will know the answer. Not me, but someone.

Yes they did I know for a fact that the alternator wires are twisted together and their is a light brown wire laying across the motor but I will post pictures tomorrow
