Hey, I just started my Chev 355, vortec heads, 10.5:1 compression, 650cfm Holley DP in my 79 Cutlass.
And the housing on my TH350 is cracked which then broke and poured fluid out every where.
So, now Im looking for ideas for what transmission to put in.
TH350, TH400, Shift kit....
I have 273's in the rear but that will change at some point.
Thanks

I'd go with another turbo 350... Or if you can afford it 700R4 or 200R4 and switch your rear to a 3:73 or 4:11.

The next time I go through my drive train I'm useing a 700R4. I'm really starting to think having the overdrive and the low 1st gear is worth the cost.

x2! Your definatley gonna want overdrive if you step up the rear gears.

200-4r, easier to install as it's a stock trans for the g-bodys, fewer issues, better gearing, better overdrive, and just as strong as the 700. not sure, but i think it's also lighter.

I went with the 700r4 vand absolutely love it..If you have a reputable transmission builder I might suggest you check these guys out and look at all their kits CKPerformance.com and ptcrace.com for your converter needs.....If you go the 700r4 you will need a different crossmember and get your driveshaft cut 3". The debate will go on forever with the 2004r vs the 700r4, as for me...You know my preference!!!

Which transmissions have OD?
Everything would have to change for bolting up if I don't choose
A th350?
Thanks for your info.

both the 700 and the 200-4r are OD.
it is true that there is no clear winner of the 200 vs 700 debate, they are both decent transmissions in stock form. when they have been upgraded (and they both need it for anything over a stock NA v6 or 305) they are both very good transmissions.

Me too, my 700 and A 3:24 gear has been flawless. I love it. drives fantastic.

I'm a 200-4R guy myself. Although I'm going to have to build it to withstand 550 lb-ft of torque, I like the gear spread and light weight. I'll be running 3.23's in the rear.
