im looking for a 305 HO to throw in my el co...........how can i tell the diffrence between the ho block and the regular 305 block and what kinda car it came out of

Umm, how do you tell the difference between sh*t and crap?

Why build a 305? You will be a lot happier with a 350.

The block is likely the same, the difference will be in the cam, and probably the intake/heads.

Cruise over to montecarloss.com, they can probably help you the most.

305s can make nearly as much power as a 350, but they don't have the torque down low.

The easiest way to check to see if it is a 305 HO is check the casting number on the head. If you do a bit of research you will find what casting numbers came on the HO blocks.

i don't know why you want a 305, but HO's had 416 heads, but there was only a 5 hp difference from a regular 305 and a HO.
just get a 350

Thought it was more like 40 horsepower. Getting a 305 H.O. makes sense, you can get a complete good engine for cheap from someone who is putting in a 350. The 305 is a good reliable engine.

The 305HO also had alot better average HP and TQ over the stock 305 which is what really matters. I always laugh at the people who will sacrafice average horsepower just because they may gain a few peak hp.
