Hi im new to this forum. i have a 85 buick regal. When i got the car the previous owner had put a motor from a monte carlo. Seems like they didnt want to wire everything in so they cut a lot of wires. That motor blew. So i picked up a motor from a cutlass. Had the harness on it so i rewired my car. Its been a journey getting it going. I had to hook up all the vac lines being as it had none. . i went to a couple of junk yards and found a regal with same setup. so i took pictures and ran my vac lines just like it had. I installed a new rebuilt carb and plugs. I am new to carbs. So im learning as i go. Ok so my problem at idle its a little ruff and seems maybe like its misfiring. i went to the shop were i purchased my carb and he unpluged a sensor on the carb and put another and said it wasnt moving fast enough and my ecm(computer) is bad. Is he right or just bs'ing me. While driving it runs ok. stumbles a bit sometimes but if i give it gas car runs decent. Thanks in advance for any advice and help. Also i set the timing at 8* according to emmisions sticker and when i come to a stop i get the oil/choke light but i give it gas as i start to go and it goes away.

You said you got an engine from a Cutlass but what engine is it? An Olds 307 or a Chubby 305? Don't listen to that mechanic as 'it wasnt moving fast enough' doesn't really make sense and the ECM rarely goes bad.

Your rough idle could be tons of different things. Who did the carb rebuild? Most people/places do very poor 'rebuilds' and use substandard parts.

Not sure if I would've took pictures of something in a junkyard for illustration purposes 😀 . Just kidding, they may have been right. You should have looked online for the vacuum diagrams or asked one of us, at least you would have known it was right.

I just found this site. Wish i would have found it sooner. sorry bout the lack of info. its a 3.8 v6. I searched online for the vac diagram and couldnt locate it. I got it rebuilt at a shop out where i live. That same guy i took it to said the mixture control solenoid wasnt getting a strong signal. but he didnt test with a ohm meter, dwell or amything. he unplugged mine of the carb an pluged one he had out already. And said it wasnt moving enough. I also used the emmisions sticker to help route the vac lines

What brand of PCV are you using? Only the AC/Delco ones have the correct flow rate, aftermarket ones don't have the correct flow rate and usually lean out the A/F mixture which would cause idle issues. As for the M/C Sol not moving fast enough, that is the first time I heard of that. You can't really tell the cycle rate of a M/C dwell without hooking up a dwell meter or laptop.

Its all vac line i just picked up at autozone. I didnt think it would have an effect on it.

What does this mean?

If you're planning on retaining the CCC system and all the emissions crap, I would HIGHLY recomend getting a GM service manual for your car, otherwise it can take forever to track down/test properly for problems. IMO, without one you're pissing in the wind. Any mechanic can fix your car IF they know what to look for but they usually don't as evident by your mechanic not having a clue what to actually test/look for. A service manual will give you step by step instruction what to do to track down specific problems.

Previous poster said i had to use ac delco vacumm lines or it would run to lean. I just purchased regular vacumm lines from autozone and cut to length. i didnt think they had to be specific diameter.

I was talking about your PCV valve, Autozone only carries FRAM ones that are junk. As hose hose sizes, I found out Autozone does not carry 3/16 id soft vacuum hose. They sell 7/32 id which is close, but is too lose on some barbs. As DoubleV said, you will need a repair manual for your car. Most modern mechanics are clueless with carbs let alone the CCC carbs.

He said to use a Delco PCV, not vacuum line.....

Either way, you really need to get a GM service manual.
