Ever since they discovered '80's music- the '50's has suffered. Why? I can do with some doo-wop as well as some punk and new wave. (Tooootally different head- tooootally) Who said that?101.1 somewhat suxxxxx now.
Here in Pittsburgh the most of the radio market is under the thumb of iHeart Radio & they suck. They neutered the rock station (WDVE) & took the funny out of it's morning show, the oldies station (WWSW) went from the '50's to '70's to a late '70's to '90's "classic" station that is more late '80's/'90's, the alt/new rock station (WXDX) has went from a good station to one that you wish the plastic Wendy's knife was sharp they only play . Their only station that plays music of it's format type in the Kiss FM station & it sucks. They created a country station but have a feeling it's more "bro-country" & Taylor Swift (sorry, live in a rural area but can't listen to country.) I really don't think there is a real hip-hop station in the area. Right now the best rock station (WRKW) I can pick up is a Johnstown Pa one that actually plays some of what I hear on Octane on SXM. Years back you could hear almost everything. Stations were better when they were individually owned not like this one national company owning most of a markets stations. Here's what drives me crazy. I live in NYC. There should be a ton of good rock radio stations. Yet instead we have Spanish, Hip Hop, Religious, Country, Talk radio, Sports, News, an Oldie station that just lately figured out the '80's happened, a "Classic" rock station that is stuck in the '70's and thinks their bands only made one song, virtually a rock desert. And yet there is a HUGE underground Indie scene in Brooklyn and Long Island City that is filling clubs and spawning tons of great groups. No radio coverage since The Indie Darkroom died. Is the radio market that corrupt as it was in the Allen Freed days? Money talks? I guess so because he aforementioned WFUV 90.7 is a non-profit public radio station. And it is the only station paying attention. Yeah, they still worship the Beatles and Stones but they play stuff you may have never heard. And you can hear NEW music that no one else will play. Like this perfect road trip song.

The Silversun Pickups are an excellent band. I have been waiting for them to do a show around here, so I can go see them live.Good music is found where it always has been- underground. Crap rules the airwaves for the unwashed masses. I lean more toward Indie bands like this. I have faith- the kids are alright and doing just fine..

The Paulsen & Kreen days were the best. "Stanley P. Kachowski, the P stands for Heinz pickles cause they are good food!" There was Bobby Subgum, J.T., Otis, Ralph the Cat, Judge Jimbo Browntown, then sucking down a good hot cup of Bustass. I miss those days.WDVE used to be the bomb when it was Jim Krenn. Remember the Stanley P Kachowski skits?
They don't even let them have the give away swag anymore to add insult to injury. That is sad. Last time I was there several years ago I was jealous of how good the radio was by yunz.
