I have an 86 cutlass that was having a starting problem. It would keep running the starter even with the key out.
So I've replaced the ignition switch and that problem is fixed.
Now I have another problem. I may of installed the ignition switch wrong. We left the key in the lock position when we put the switch in.

Now the car tries to start at the position it should sit at when it is running. Not during the spring position, but just before that.

What is the proper procedure for installing the switch into a non-tilt non-dimmer column?

What position should the key be in?(steering wheel locked/unlocked?)

Is the switch itself adjustable?(could that be the cause?)

Thanks in advance for any help, now back to reading all 235 search results on the board.

Is the ignition switch adjusted properly (down the column, next to the high beam switch)?
