I'm an Idiot!

As much as I hate to admit this..... I was about 17, had a 69 Pontiac Tempest Custom S Convertible and was working under it using a bumper jack. Lets just say, I have a few scars on my legs from it. I'm an *ss!

i used to work on the assembly line for cummins and when i did i was really good about wearing safety glasses and gloves when i worked on my stuff just because it was habit to me to wear it.... but the habit faded, lol.

ooh, heres a good one from yesterday. i was getting the jeep steering shaft from the junkyard, and i finally got the bottom of the shaft out. i was giving the top some powerful yanks.

the guys working there found me a grand cherokee that they just pulled the motor in so i had all kinds of room. i was standing in the engine bay tugging as hard as i could on it. i was thinking the top was just a pinch bolt, but it actually sits in a little notch. i did not realize this until after my next action. for the hell of it i pulled the pinch bolt at the top all the way out. i got all set to yankk it out with all i had and BAM! had i just wiggled it lightly the shaft would have came loose..... but no, i yanked with all i had. lol. luckily nothing sharp but i have some big knots on the back of my hand that are killing right now,

I was helping a friend tune his engine once (80 Monte in 91), and leaned over to see if the carb was shooting as we were trying to get it started, and poof -backfire out the carb. Burned off the mustache, ghotee, and eyebrows. My buddy said he watched my head get ingulfed. I looked rediculous for a while. Kinda like the idiot version of the Scarlet letter, everywhere I went everyone knew I was an idiot.

i have another "i'man idiot" story.. i was welding the rear quarter on the cutlass. took the mask off to see the results and had an itch near the back of my ear,.. once again me not thinking use the tip of the mig torch to scratch it, and damn that hurt!! lol that was no tickel!

Sorry, I'm not making fun, but that has got to be one of the funniest things I've read on here. I actually 'lol'ed. I think the reason I find it so funny is because I can picture myself doing the exact same thing. I cant remember how many times I've picked up a soldering iron by the shaft, or something stupid like that. I've taken a few coolant baths and shots to the face as well... And, yet, I start a new job back in a garage in a couple weeks..time to get hurt again!

Unless you've busted/scraped a knuckle, burned yourself, or been covered in grease/crap at some point in your life, it's my firm belief you're not a true gearhead  😀

hahaha i'm sure i'll have more stories sooner or later, one way or another i'm always hurting myself or not using my brain 100%, and what word that come outa my mouth are, "dammit! i'm an idiot!" lol  i know i have others but cant think of them of the top of my head, but i agree with this belief too

How 'bout this...
Couple years ago I was just doing a simple oil change on the GP. Drained oil and replaced filter...then backed it down off the ramps...then refilled it with oil. I know there was enough residual oil in the engine that I didn't damage anything, but still, not the smartest thing to do.
