I'm going to look at a 1981 LeMans Wagon-Is this a good deal?

Apparently the car is from out west and is solid, runs and drives and has 75,000 miles. I don't know much more. I am hopeful it has an A/C set up. It looks rough as far as being faded but also appears solid. They are asking $3,500. I'm thinking more around $2-$2,500 tops. I prefer Malibu or Cutlass wagons but this looks clean and solid and I guess I could always change the front facia to a Mallibu/Cutlass. Thoughts? Also, how's parts availability of the Pontiac wagons compared to Malibu/Cutlass? Thanks.

Looks rough paint wise. As far as body i would keep the pontiac parts just because it's different and less common.

As far as interior parts in I'm sure it shares parts with other gbody pontiacs.

If the chassis and interiors aren't chewed up maybe with the 2k.

Agreed, the paint is rough. I am a body man by trade so I am not worried about that. It will be repainted. Rust is the obvious enemy and a solid car is worth more in my opinion.

Not sure. I am hoping it is a V8/Air condition set up car.

I would absolutely keep the '81 Pontiac header panel. In my opinion, that's what makes the car unique. Body wise, it does look pretty solid. Of course you'd have to assess it for rust issues. Frame, lower doors, floors, etc. It would look cool with the faux wood panels redone. Another factor would be the interior. How complete is it? How is the overall condition of the plastics, door panels, and dash?

Cutlass sheetmetal will have mismatched bodylines.....Malibu/Pontiac share styling and Buick/Cutlass share styling

Unless solid wagons are littering the streets in your area, $3500 is a decent price for a running wagon without rot issues. When they turn up in this part of the country, they aren't that cheap. It's not 2015 anymore, prices are up across the board on EVERYTHING

I'd much rather buy a weathered aoriginal paint car than one with fresh paint over who knows what.

Bottom of that right quarter looks suspect to me.
